Now this is a delightful book. An occult novel, very much vibes with Dion Fortune, the descriptions of places when or where things happen are very evocative, when the author describes a scene in an old church, you can smell the Frankincense. In the next scene which plays out in the library, you can smell the books, like the smell of the glue in the binding, you can smell the beeswax of the polished reading furniture.

Now I have never been able to visualise, but I discovered I can ‘smellize’. And another beautiful thing is that this narrative could be in the 1880s or 1920s or even the 1950s. But I realised it was in the 60s as there was mention of the Vietnam war. This is a very nice touch. There is a nostalgia there, I can feel. This is narrative with hidden layers surprising twists and turns ,a bloody good yarn and a subtle flavour of Chaos Magic in addition to Kabbala. A really enjoyable read, a book you can get so deeply into that you forget to eat. It really is spell binding.
